D Day Meseum Looted
The D Day Meseum has reopened afte being looted.It is expanding across the street also.In my 5 visits I have never been disappointed.
Here are generic tips for users of genealogy and computers.
Users are nervous about learning with their important documents but if they create a practice file, they are more relaxed about learning.
Feel free to add a tip you feel is more important than these 10.
10 tips and you will never have a FTW ( Family Tree Windows ) problem again.These are examples only.You can use your "Imagination ... is the irrepressible revolutionist" to come up with unique folder and file names.
1.Use every week or month:http://windowsupdate.microsoft.comhttp://windowsupdate.microsoft.comthen reboot.Always reboot.
2.Select custom install for all apps:C:\Program Files\FTW ( FAMILY TREE WINDOWS )-July-2006
3.Create unique file names: smith-Jennifer-1844-Georgia-2006.ftw
4.Export your files to different formats: GEDCOM and also to practice with: Select FTW | File | Export File | Entire File | Select the different formats such as | Save As Type | Vs 5, Vs 6, etc.and Gedcom.
5.Create unique practice files: practice-ftw-august-2006.ftw or practice-GEDCOM-august.ged
6.Practice creating every type of report and tree in your file:practice-ftw-august-2006.ftw
7.Export / backup / save / your file to ( 1 of 4 unique names ) each time you work on it.Many uses post questions relating to not finding their file, or saving a corrupt file then both will not open, etc.
8.All software programs (FTW, Word, Excel, etc.) can open a FILE of an earlier version.VS 10 can open Vs 9.Vs 8 can open Vs 7,Vs 6 can open Vs 5,etc.
9.Never turn your PC off and reboot 1 or more times per day.
10. Bring your PC to CompUSA / Bestbuy / Circuit City / upgrade the RAM chips to 512 or 1024 MEGS of Memory.
11. Close everything and use your CD Burner software to backup / save / burn / to a CD-RW until you know the procedure before trying to backup / burn / with Family Tree Maker.
