5th Army, Co "B", 175th Engineer Gen Sv Rgt
My father served from 2/18/1942 - 9/15/1945.We know he served in Italy (Palermo?).His discharge papers mentioned Naples, North Appennines, Po Valley, Rome-Arno, Sicily, and Tunisia. My father is no longer with us and was not talkative about his time overseas. One story my brother heard was how, while in Italy, he drove a fuel truck off a bridge that was under construction, when the bridge was to be attacked. He did so to prevent the fuel from igniting during the attack and killing more men.My brother remembers a book or booklet about the bridge construction(s).Does anyone know of this book and how I can get a copy - my cost of course.
Any more stories about this group of brave men would be appreciated. We honor our father and would like to know more.
