This is my grandfather, who was later made a Brig. General. He was taken from the Erie railroad, so helped run railway shipments within Australia. At the conclusion of the war, MacArthur asked Paul W. Johnston to run the railroads of Japan, but my grandfather turned him down to return to civilian life and eventually the chairmanship of the Erie railway. I have a signed photo from MacArthur that was presented to this Paul W. Johnston. Some of the details of his service in Australia appeared at the time in Erie Employee Magazine, which is available at some libraries and railway museums, etc.
