This information comes from a recent interview with my Dad.He was in the Army during WWII.These are some of the medical units he served with.If you recognize any of them, please contact me.
1ST GENERAL HOSPITAL: Established in 1943 at Fort George Meade, Maryland. On December 27, 1943, this unit set sail out of Boston for England. They set up at North Mymms, near St. Albans, where it operated for several months. In September, 1944, they crossed the English Channel and landed at Omaha Beach. They camped at Normandy and then moved nearer to a town called Saint Mary Egleese (sp).A hospital train picked them up and took them to Paris, where they stayed until the war ended in May of 1945.This unit was scheduled to return to the U.S. that September. He transferred to another General Hospital unit...
191ST GENERAL HOSPITAL: also located in that same region of Paris. This unit was slated to return to the U.S. the following November. He transferred, again...
424TH MEDICAL DETACHMENT: This unit was stationed at the Paris Detention Barracks. It was a small unit, which consisted of one doctor and eight medical personnel. They were dispatched to Oberammergau, Germany as an Army of Occupation unit. They set up a dispensary at the Palace of Justice in Nuremberg.Their mission was to service personnel who were involved with the War trials. He then re-enlisted from the Army to the Air Force and was eventually transferred to Bovingdon, England @1946 (I don't know which unit).
Was YOUR father with any of these medical units? If so, what was his name?
