I was told by a man who was there that troops were lined up in "pods" all along the coast of England in the order in which they were to go. His Battalion was supposed to have gone on that day but they were detained when Headquaters learned that the heavy tanks were sinking in the sand. So the tank battaslions were replaced by engineers who prepared the shore for them.
He also said that troops went through the village in such tight order that it would have been impossible to have crashed the line. Think what it would have been like to have been there and seen that. Mary
