My dad was at Camp Atterbury at that time. He was a surgeon repairing head and neck wounds. There are extensive photographs of the veterans who were patients.
There is an excellent description of the life and times at Camp Atterbury by Kurt Vonnegut who was your father's age. I think the book is called Fates Worse Than Death. It is autobiographical.
Also, Rosemary Clooney, George Clooney's aunt, was there. She has a foundation in California.
Camp Atterbury now houses a Job Corps Center under the Department of Labor. There is a museum at the base honoring the people who were there in World War II. Our family has lost touch with Betty Randall who is somehow in charge.
