Hi Debbie,Sorry that I didn't understand that Edward Guokas was your father's father.Can you provide me all the names that you have that are Guokas' and where they might be from and maybe we can find them in the phone book.A quick search shows 2 in IL and about 36 other Guokas' in the site I use.
The various websites that I am aware of for Purple Heart recipients did not include Edward Guokas.However, in the information I sent you in regards to his name being on the Memorial Wall, it was notated that he did receive it.And as I understand it, anyone wounded or killed in a war automatically receives the Purple Heart.Check out this website/

If you want to write to the address below, I believe they will be able to provide you with a lot of information about Mr. Guokas' death in the war.But be warned it can be quite graphic.Be sure to mention "Freedom of Information Act" in your letter to them if you decide to write them.It may take up to six months to receive the information.If you don't hear from them within what you feel is a reasonable amount of time, contact them again and keep track of all communications.
