Paratrooper training Exibition Accident
I am looking for information about a paratrooper exibition jump that may have been done for the presidents wife around 1945.
Lee E. Hefley went through "Parachute Traning School" around 1945. I have some of his papers and old photos.
The story I was told by his wife was they were doing an exibition jump for the presidents wife and the pilot flew to the wrong side of the mountain. They jumped into a wooded area and all but two died. One man broke his legs and Lee Hefley lost his eyesite and his hearing was affected from the jar of stopping. The two helped each other out of the woods.
Lee spent time in the hospital and got his eyesite back with the help of doctors. He wore colored glasses and hearing aids for the rest of his life.
I have written the National Personnel Records Center but they said his records were lost.
Any ideas of where I might look for information?
