Felix, Sparks, 45th Inf. Division
"Felix Sparks, a former Colorado Supreme Court justice and World War II hero who helped liberate the Nazi concentration camp at Dachau, died of pneumonia on Monday at St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver. He was 90.
"Sparks, who grew up in an Arizona hard-rock mining family, enlisted in the Army in 1936, and later led the Colorado-based 157th infantry — comprised primarily of scrappy farm boys — through nearly two years of battle, from the bloody beaches of Italy to the horror
of Dachau. Along the way, Sparks took a bullet in the stomach, shrapnel in his liver, and earned two Silver Stars."
