Lori, at the risk of adding confusion to what appears to be a thread already containing some responses with mis-information, I have a couple of suggestions. I make these, as always, with the preface that I am a hobbyist only, and not an expert. Confirm all info I might provide independently.
I would suggest that his unit might have been the 9th Armored Infantry Battalion, one of the organic units of the 6th Armored Division. The Division arrival in England is listed in my reference material as 23 Feb 1944. I found other info about the Division which listed their arrival in ETO as 25 Feb 1944 (one of the links listed below). Whichever of these is the more accurate, it would seem to closely parallell the date you indicated for arrival in Europe: 22 Feb. My reference gives the Division campaign credit for Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe.
