William Day, 654 Tank Destroyer Bn, 1944
I am the half brother of William Edward Day, Jr., who was killed in France on 27 Sept 1944.He was in the 654th. Tank Destroyer Bn. Co.A, which I think was connected to the 35th. Inf. Division in the XII Corps.
He was buried at Andilly, France until 20 July 1949, at which time he was returned to Fort Rosecrans Natl. Cemetery in San Diego.I attended his funeral then, but I know little else of my brother.I have no adult pictures of him.He was raised by his father in Oregon.I was raised by my mother in California.
My entire family has deceased, and I would very much like to know more about him and his military history.I wonder if anyone has any group or unit photographs of his groups.
Also why would his tombstone indicate "Field Artillery?"Is that another term for Tank Destroyer?Any assistance would be very much appreciated.Sincerely, Norbert Schnabel.
