Re: 284th Combat Engineers
I was a Jeep Driver/Radio Operator in the 284th Combat Engineers, H/S Co., S-2(Recon).
When the outfit was breaking up for redeployment back to the U.S.,Headquarters made up three maps. The first shows the 284th's travels from Camp Breckinridge, Ky to Camp Shanks. N.Y. where they boarded the Marine Raven for England. The second, their route through England from Bristol, where they landed, to their base near Chester and then on the Southampton where they boarded the British ship Cheshire for LeHarve. The third, their travel by 49&8's to Thionville and on through The Bulge,Ardennes,Remagen and,Landshut where they were on V-E Day. Then back through Nuremerg and down to Southern France near Marseille, where they brokeup for redeployment.
These maps are rather crude, but as far as I remember accurate. They also have notations on them where some of the notable things happened.
If they could be of any use to you let me know and I'll send you copies.
