Glad you appreciated the poem. The words are simple but the meaning profound.
As a member of the DAR, I first read the poem at a Walk of Honor Flag ceremony for a local soldier returning from Iraq.I read it with tears in my eyes and a quivering voice, but everyone in attendance love it, and I have had many requests for copies. After reading it 3 times, I thought I should come up with some new material, but the old soldiers, who are part of the ceremony, want me to continue with poem for each returning soldier.
The poem is copyrighted so I wrote the author, Charles M. Province, for permission to use it, which he granted. He is the Founder and President of the George Patton, Jr. Historical Society, which is online.
A cousin of mine, Roger Bradley, said,"A nation who does not honor its heroes doesn't deserve them."
