The more posters the better. We all learn something new every time someone submits a query or answers one.
I don't know which towns brother-in-law entered or the dates.He arrived in Europe in 1944 and it seems like most of the heavy fighting in Italy was already done in 1943.
He never talked much about the war, not even to my father.
He died over 40 years ago so all my questions will remain unanswered forever. I didn't know about his hatred for the Italians until we were planning our trip to Europe in the 50s.
I'm sure the Germans threatened town's people before advancing soldiers reached the town.They may have held some occupants captive in order to get more info such asnumber of troops and types of equipment. I would have done same thing if a commander of an opposing force.
