James Hatton Hill - killed off coast of England 1944
Seeking information on James Hatton Hill (nickname "Whitey) b.1923, d.8 May 1944 in combat; Seaman 1st class (reportedly a pharmacist mate) - stationed in England. Father Leo HILL b.ca 1904 in Kentucky. Mother Mary Verona HILL, residing Lansing, Michigan, in 1944. Possibly killed during a training exercise off England; buried in Cambridge American Cemetery, England.
Whitey went to school with my mother; they were together since 9th grade and engaged to be married when he was killed in WWII. Mom is in her 80s and still doesn't know for sure what happened to Whitey. I"ve sent for military records to no avail. Whitey was an only child, with no descendents.
Is there anyway to get Whitey's military records to find out what happened to him so I can let my mother know? She thinks that he migh have been a casualty of Slapton Sands?
I'm our family historian - though not technically related, I consider Whitey to be family and will include him in our family history so he won't be forgotten.
