Cliffe Hamilton Wolfe, 1913-1944
Cliffe Wolfe's name is on the wall for WWII missing soldiers in the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial in Margraten, Limburg, Netherlands. His name has been adopted by Bart van der Sterren (email@example.com). He will visit the cemetery on a frequent basis, place flowers at the memorial on special days, etc.He would like to find Cliffe's family to let them know that their family member hasn't been forgotten. This practice of adopting a grave or soldier's name is quite common in Europe.
Cliffe was born 23 Feb 1913 in Michigan to Otto and Margaret. He worked at the Merrill-Palmer School in Detroit, MI before he went into the army. He was in the 109 Inf 28 Div reaching the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was listed as missing 17 Nov 1944 after fierce fighting in the Huertgen Forest holding off Germany forces and giving allied forces the chance to counter attack in what was to be called the "Battle of the Bulge."
Cliffe was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
Cliffe had a brother Charles Wolfe married to Margaret Darnell and they have two daughters: Nancy Elizabeth, b. 1942 and Susan Margaret, b.1947.
If anyone knows this family and can contact either myself or Bart it would be greatly appreciated.
