197th AAA Battalion - Searching soldier Ralph Mason 1944

By Nicole Huynen April 12, 2009 at 10:30:54

Hi,
I have a few informations about Ralph Mason. I think he was in the 197th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion. My parents knew him during October and November 1944 near Liege, Belgium. On a picture, we can see him in front of the building where the 197th QM Gas Supply Co CP was installed. The 197th had a great front to defend: 120 miles ! His unit had probably the mission to destroy the V1 fliying bombs which came from German border, near Aachen to Liege. This would explain his presence in my village at that time and for several weeks. The Battle of the Bulge began on 16 December, the American units have moved. Nobody really knew what Ralph had done after that time with us. He doesn't talk about that in his letters.

Other informations:
After the war, he was a butcher in Kentucky (Louisville or Hopkinsville).
He had at less two daughters: Linda, born before the WWII and Nicole (like me, nicknamed Nicky) born after WWII.

Thanks a lot for any informations about him.

Nicole (and Philippe, my son)
