John Russell Lyden, USN, 1915-1988
Seeking personal recollections of John Russell Lyden (1915-1988), a Commander in the United States Navy from World War II through the Korean War.In 1946, Lyden was Captain of the U.S.S. Ibex during its voyage home from Shanghai to the United States.I am doing research on the naval record of my father, Ensign H. C. Hanlin, who served under Lyden as Executive Officer during this time.(My father and Commander Lyden did not always see eye-to-eye; and so I am curious what Commander Lyden was really like.)I believe (but am not sure) that Commander Lyden may have been the son of John Leon Lyden of Pennsylvania, and the grandson of Timothy Lyden – maybe someone can set me straight on this.John Russell Lyden died on Christmas Day 1988 and was buried in the San Francisco National Cemetery.Did he have children?Grandchildren? Please let me hear from you!
