Tate Family
I have been researching this Tate family and thought someone at some point may be searching for them also.
This Tate family has a tradition of military service and is connected to USMA at West Point with more than one relative.
Daniel Lisle Tate 1st b. 24 Mar 1856 in Kentucky
Graduated from USMA in 1880
He married Lida Scranton
Daniel served in the military at various locations from 1880 until he retired in March of 1920.
He died 3 Jan 1931 and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery Section 7 Site 8263
Daniel and Lida had a son, Joseph Scranton Tate (later Sr)was born between 1894 & 1896 in Scranton PA. The US Veteran's gravesite lists 18 Dec 1894 as his birth date. 1900 Census lists Dec 1894; other records list 1896.
Joseph Scranton Tate (Sr)attended the USMA at West Point and graduated early in Apr 1917.
He married Alice Maud Sargent 25 Apr 1917. Alice Maud Sargent was born in Ft Logan CO on 30 Jun 1895 and was the daughter of Frederic Homer Sargent and Alice M.
The Tate family moved as Jos Sr's military assignments changed.

Janet Tate b. 13 Oct 1924 d. 3 Mar 1926 Janet is buried in Arlington National Cemetery Section 3 site 2044.
Joseph Tate Sr and Alice M Tate divorced in 1939 in FL.
Alice S Tate died in 1959 in St Augustine FL and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in St Augustine.
Joseph Sr died in New Orleans in 1963 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Section 3 Site 2044.
Joseph Scranton Tate Jr attended USMA and graduated in 1941. He entered military service upon graduation. Joseph Tate Jr married Margaret Blanton Husson in 1942. Joseph Jr had a short but distinguished military career. A plane on which he was a crew member disappeared during a mission into Germany on 12 Dec 1943. He was serving with the 328th Bomb Squadron Heavy, 93rd Bomb Group. Lt Col Joseph Scranton Tate Jr is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing at the Cambrige American Cemetery in Cambridge England. He was declared dead on 9 Sep 1945.
Margaret Husson Tate remained in St Augustine FL where she was a teacher at Hastings High School. She remarried in 1950. Margaret died on 22 Mar 1995. She is buried at the Evergreen Cemetery in St Augustine.
Frederic Homer Tate also attended the USMA at West Point. He graduated 30 Jun 1942. Capt. Frederic Tate died in Vigneulles France 21 Sep 1944. He was serving with the 387th Fighter Squadron 365th Fighter Group in England. A memorial stone was placed in USMA Cemetery on 21 Apr 1949. One record seems to indicate his body was brought home from France and buried at USMA.
Daniel Lisle Tate II was named for his paternal grandfather. He attended USMA at West Point and graduated on 30 Jun 1947.
Daniel lived in St Augustine FL. He died in Apr 2001 and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in St Augustine.
