Re: Chaplain Willard B Hanson att to 21st Inf Reg, 24th Div
Some more information has recently come to me from my brother-in-law about his father's [Chaplain Willard B Hanson] service as an Army Chaplain in the Pacific furing WWII.
"Dad said he was with a special forward scout group [on New Guinea] exploring the area before a US invasion. It would have been a small group and a secret mission. And the fact that he was abandoned by the US military for 6 months means it would not likely be registered in regular orders. We need to find someone who was with him. They were rescued and sent to Australia. I imagine he had his faith strengthened during this ordeal.
"His orders show Nov 22 1943 assigned SPECIAL TROOPS scout mission probably THEN SHOWS up in Letterman Hospital San Fransico in Oct. 19447 months later.
"The time line matches his statement of being left in the jungle for 6 months.
"Since he spent a time in an Australian Hospital, wouldthere be some records on this and his time in Letterman Hospital?"
