Re: WWII Ace and Silver Star recipient
My source at the Air Force was only looking to see if a "William Wells" was credited with shooting down any enemy aircraft and if they could find the GO's mentioned in the posting. Both came up negative. I also looked at the WWII Aerial Victory Credit list which is online and did not find a William Wells.
The station assignments came from the Air Force Historical Research Agency which is the repository for Air Force historical documents. These are the official records of the Air Force and not the Navy. You can find the information on the 67th FS and 68th FS at the following websites:

I still believe that there is too much misinformation about Lt. Wells service to determine any units he might have been assigned to.
