landed @ Anzio, back 2 US from Salzburg

I have an uncle who landed at Anzio, fought up through Italy and eventually his unit was sent back from Salzburg, Austria.He was a forward artillery observer I think.Anyone possibly have ideas or resources on units that followed this path?
