PLEASE, help me...11th Inf, Co. D
Hi, I really hope someone can help me. I've been trying to trace our family tree, but I can't find anything on my Grandfather.
My mother was an only child, and really never knew him, due to his absence. My grandmother had told us that he served for many years. But all she has ever really said was "he was a Sgt in 11th Inf., Co. D at Ft. McClellan, AL"
My brother finally wrote the D.o.D. not too long ago to obtain records. Once he told grandmother he had done, she told us he had been in the Army/ Air Forces or the Armed Air Force, something like that. (I suppose back then there was a combination of those two). She brought out 5 photos.
In 3 of the photos he is in fatigues (old greens), on what is obviously a ship, though there are no visible markings on the ships or the photos.
In the 4th photo he is in a dress uniform. Written on the back is "Looking at the White Cliffs of Dover."
In the 5th photo, he is in some type of room or lab. He is sitting, with a small boy standing beside him. Looking over my grandfathers shoulder, in the photo, there is a wall-mounted telephone. At the bottom of the telephone is a label that clearly reads "WhiteHouse." When you turn this photo over, it is stamped "Declassified" and "Pentagon."
Did anyone out there know my grandfather? We sure didn't.
