Hello Ol' Uncle Bob, My Father died when I was very young. My information came through family stories from Uncles & Aunts. My Uncle Bob was a captain, and stayed in the service after the WWII for a least a few years. (John Robert Karlson ~ birthday: 25 Feb 1915 death date: 7 Feb 1989)The details I've told you about concerning Uncle Dick's death ~ I remember from a visit I had with Uncle Bob about two years before he died.Uncle Bob said that since Uncle Dick's wounds were near his spine and were very severe, he would have been totally palatalized, hence his dying was really a blessing. Uncle Bob was in some military position in his full time "stateside" job; he must have requested the IDPF. (Don't you think so?) Bob was stationed in Fort Riley Kansas in July of 1947. Was Fort Riley some part of the VA? Most of my Father's family, including parents, died very young. The family was very close, and all were exceptionally beautiful & talented people.<> Is it possible Uncle Bob could have tried to keep extremely sad details from the family? I mean, if he had it within his power to do so?? I'm just guessing here. Am I at an impasse? How can I find my Uncle Dick's unit number? Buddies he served with? Can I find out why & how Uncle Dick was awarded the Bronze Star?
Thanks-a-million for all your help! Love, Florence K. Covino
