Dare I ask?
Hello, I am new to WWII genealogical research, so I don't know whats out there---but, I see there isn't much because of the fire. The Fire. BUT I just wanted to ask a simple, general question: HOw the HECK do I find out what unit my grandfather was in?
He died when I was 3 (1975); his wife just died a couple of months ago, but she had Alzheimers, so I could never get an answer. My mother and aunts don't know---they can't even tell me where his old uniform and/or medals are. They told me Grandpa, James Arthur Marshall was in the Phillipines. Thats it. He saw action and came home with yellow fever and/or pnuemonia. He was from Washington state and was a father during the
War. But how can I get his records if I don't even know anything about him other than all that? If I get his social security #, will that help?
If anyone reads this and has ANY comments and/or suggestions on how to proceed, please feel free to email! I do appreciate your help! THanks!
