I appreciated reading your comments. Your family history is interesting!
Just want to clarify about "D Day" on Iwo Jima. There was a D Day and it was Feb. 19, 1945.I have a book on the 5th Marines and the author lists everything by "D Plus 5" (or "D plus however many days) to refer to what I believe is Feb. 24.They also have references to "D minus 2" which detailed surveillance, etc. activities that took place prior to the landing at Iwo.
I've been trying to figure out some of the lingo used in the book (D Plus 8 is something I eventually mastered).Do you know what LT and CT mean? Here's an example:"That day H Company, LT 3/28, captured an enemy sergeant-major who described a cave large enough to hold an entire Japanese battalion.." The book is filled with references to CT 27 and LT 2/28, etc.Since the 26th, 27th and 28th Battalions were there, I'm assuming those numbers refer to the Battalions, but still don't know what CT and LT are.
