Crain, Henry Walter Jr. WWII War Record
Henry Walter "Wally" Crain, Jr. born Jan. 31, 1923, Kansas City, MO. ss 498-12-4113. Enlisted USMC, approx 1939, lied about his age. Was in USMC for seven years, was still PFC, transferred to USN and retired 1960, his last ship was the USS Helena, then he mustered out from Treasure Island, CA. His grandsons are asking about grandpa's service metals and his war record. I know he was wounded on a ship which was hit by an airplane, was eventually transferred from a hospital ship to a hospital where he had to learn to walk again, that's about all I know. He must have had great doctors, Wally was one hell of a dancer for the rest of his life. He often said he was a "weather guesser" and sent up weather baloons from the ships. Sorry, no service number available, that went out with my expired ID card.Thank you for any help.
