USS Boise in WWII

Good morning, Don Wilson !
For starters, I know that the USS BOISE, a cruiser, participated in the invasion of the Italian mainland at Salerno, Italy,9 Sep 43, in support of the U.S. Fifth Army, and as a part of "Operation Avalanche".
It would have operated alongside the battleships NELSON, RODNEY, VALIANT and
WARSPITE, the carriers ILLUSTRIOUS and FORMIDABLE, and cruisers SAVANNAH, PHILADELPHIA and BROOKLYN.
The group was designated "Force H", for the purpose of supporting the invasion.
From my reading, the invasion would not have been possible without this massive assemblage of ships.
They were not only active during the actual invasion, but also played a key role in thwarting German attempts to drive the Americans back into the ocean by direct fire directed at the enemy tanks, which were about to overrun our positions.

I don't know any of the other history of this ship. Hope this little bit helps.
