Army Soldier DISTASSIO killed in WWII
I am not sure of the spelling of the surname Distassio, I am just spelling it phonetically the way my father pronounced it.
I am looking for family members of an Army soldier from Philadelphia, surname Distassio, who was killed in New Guinea in World War II.
My father was First Sergeant Thomas J. ("Jeff") Gordy, Jr., Company I, 19th Infantry, 24th Division. He was from LaGrange, Troup County, Georgia.Distassio was my father's best friend in the Army.
Distassio was killed on the Genyem Trail in New Guinea in 1942.He was the first soldier killed in Company I, 19th Infantry, 24th Division. He was walking right next to my father when he was shot and killed by a Japanese sniper.
Distassio had a girlfriend named Louise Repole.
I have several photos of Distassio in New Guinea.I also have a 5x7 color portrait of his girlfriend, Louise.I inherited these items from my father, who died Jan. 19, 1994.
If there are any family members of Distassio out there, I would like to give you these photos.
