Re: Bronze Star
Regarding Bronze Star website. There were over 8 million people in uniform in WW2 and nearly 1 million Bronze Stars were awarded. There is no collective reference on the net to the award of this medal, nor is there one at Government level.
The BSM could be awarded for Valor--conspicuous gallentry in combat-- and this distinction was noted on the medal ribbon by a small bronze "V".The BSM could also be awarded for meritorious acheivement as in the case of the Pathfinders who led the invasions of Normandy and Holland.
Some unit histories list recipients of the BSM.
In order to track the award of the medal you need to get into micro-history of the particular unit of the man you are researching. Then you can hopefully find the records of that unit.
It is no easy task. You will not find the BSM information on the Net.
