Parachute troops were originally organized into battalions which were soon expanded to form regiments. Parachute and glider infantry regiments were organized in the same manner as ground infantry regiments (see Message #4717). Airborne divisions were organized generally in the same manner as infantry divisions - three regiments of infantry, each alloted a battalion of field artillery in direct support with another battalion in general support of the division.
Prior to 1 March 1945, an airborne division generally was assigned two glider and one parachute regiments. Effective that date, the configuration was changed to one glider and two parachute regiments.
