What ship did he escape from in Pearl Harbor?
My great grandfather, Richard Patrick Healey, was part of WWI, Pearl Harbor, and WWII. He told my mom once of a story about him. He was down in the bottom of the ship shoveling coal into the engine boilers when he was burned. They took him to sick bay on shore when less than five minutes later, the boat he had just left exploded and he watched all of his friends die.My grandfather told my mom that it was the worst thing he ever had to watch.I never knew much about my great grandfather except that he loved me with all he had,I could see it in the few pictures I have of me and him before he died in 1988 (b. 1900).I desperately need to know more about him and I would like to know more about his story and his endeavors in the wars he fought.Does anybody know how I can find out or where to go from here?Nobody in my family knows anything or seems to want to find out, except me.Thank you.
