Commissioned in the infantry but later transitioned to Army Air Corps. World War II duties included: Colonel, Commanding Officer, France Army Air Field, Canal Zone, Panama, 1939 to '41; promoted to Brigadier General March 1942; Commanding General (CG), Antilles Air Command, 1941 to '43 ; promoted to Major General February 1943; CG, XII Air Support Command, Twelfth Air Force, Mediterranean Theater of Operations, 1943 to '44 (awarded Navy Distinguished Service Medal and Legion of Merit); CG, Army Air Forces Tactical Center, Orlando Army Air Base, Orlando, Florida, 1944 to '45 (Distinguished Service Medal and 2d Award of Legion of Merit); Retired, disability, 1945; died 18 October 1969 at his home in Winter Park, Florida.
