Army Aircraft Warn. System & Home Guard
Hello Everyone! Two WWII era questions for you!Hoping someone can point me in the right direction...
1) Seeking information and records availability for something called "Army Aircraft Warning System"...
Classes were given to CT volunteers (such as my mother) by Army representatives to identify all the various types of aircraft.Volunteers then served in shifts to "watch" and log what they saw passing overhead via binoculars from a hill top (called their observation post).Mom remembers getting a pair of "wings" at the end of the class.Anyone know anything about this?Or how to access records?
2)There was a "Home Guard" (made up of local volunteers) in the 1940s ... in Litchfield County, CT.Apparently each town or community had their own.My grandfather was a Captain in his local Home Guard. However, we have no papers or documentation.Their role was to block off highways and protect the village. They received their orders from:a corps in NYC??My mother remembers typing up reports for her father that were mailed in.Again, anyone know anything about this sort of thing or how to follow up for records?
Thanks a lot!
