Paul E. Chamberlain - I Sent the File Back
I've been doing geneological, military history, legal and other types of research for over forty-five years. It's not for me to say whether I'm an expert but, even though it's essentially a hobby, I've made a lot of money at it. And people - at least intelligent people - don't throw money away. I have a private library and a network of contacts. I provide information. No guesswork, no speculation, no conjecture and, above all, no personal opinions, observations or "war stories". I'm not a "nice guy" or a "good ol' boy", I'm not running a popularity contest, I don't strive for anyone's approval. I don't care what people think (because many, many people today DON'T think!). I don't intentionally embarass or offend but, likewise, I don't skirt issues, I don't care about an overly-sensitive ego here or an over-developed sense of self-importance there. I provide information. Sound, reliable information. If I have the answers on hand, there's no charge. If I don't, you pay. That's the way it works in the real world.
I've routinely received over one hundred and fifty inquiries (e-mail) in a single day. Most are sincere, serious requests for information but you'd be amazed at some of the wierdos, crack-pots, "experts" who want to debate and/or run-of-the-mill moochers (one character recently posted a public message - request? statement? whatever? - at one of the 'boards that seemed to imply that I'm under some sort of obligation to provide free information to all). A contact recently informed me he had located a file on a PFC Paul E. Chamberlain. Checking back, I found the name on a list I circulated among contacts and sources a while back in response to a request on this board - Message #4090. The message reads like a Jack London story - I know a couple Congressional Medal of Honor winners with thirty-plus years active duty and service in three wars whose exploits don't begin to parallel what this guy's said to have done in four years or less. I'm not saying it's not true - I'm just saying it sounds "iffy".
I may have just dealt with some nut at the time and confused this guy with the nut (sometimes it's really difficult to tell one from another). Details aren't important. This guy posted several messages, essentially whining, while several other gutless, back-biting, mealy-mouth no-knacks chimed in with their own clever, if juvenile, comments and observations. As usual, Louie Turner felt impelled to offer "input" - Message #4509 - no surprise there! Amid all this, one beautiful, sane, level-headed individual (thanks, Brenda!) made the astute observation that all these seemingly-concerned busy-bodies obviously weren't concerned enough to address the guy's question. I've been around. I've been shot at and missed, s*** at and hit, dumped on, lied to, lied about, cussed, discussed, slandered, libeled and defamed by pros. I don't even turn around anymore to see who's doing the kicking (there are those who say that perhaps my butt's too calloused to even feel it; there may be some truth to that).
The point of all this is, if you feel you have a legitimate gripe, be adult about it. Feel free to e-mail me. I may tell you to go to hell but, at least you've addressed the situation in some fashion other than that of a blubbering, wet-nosed five-year old.
Again, thank you Brenda.
