American Defense Service Medal - for active service anytime during the period of national emergency 8 September 1939 to 7 December 1941, both dates inclusive
American Theater Medal - for service in North, Central and/or South America (including Continental United States) 7 December 1941 to 2 March 1946 providing certain requirements have been met
European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal - for service within any or all the theaters of operations indicated (each bronze service star represents service within a prescribed area of a theater of operations during an officially-designated campaign - names of campaigns are listed on his discharge)
World War II Victory Medal - for active service between 7 December 1941 and 2 March 1946.
Assuming the above are listed on his discharge, these are what he was authorized at the time of his release from active duty. He may be entitled to decorations and other awards that were approved subsequent to his release. You can request the above by writing to:
