39th Engineer (General Service) Regiment was activated at Camp Ord, California 1 June 1940. Company F was an element of the regiments's 2d Battalion. The regiment was redesignated 19th Engineer (Combat) Regiment 1 July 1940, thus, Company F, 2d Battalion, 39th Engineers became Company F, 2d Battalion, 19th Engineers. The regiment departed New York 31 August 1942 for duty in the European Theater of Operations, arriving in England 5 September, where it equipped and trained prior to landing in Algeria on 11 November. Elements took part in the assault landing at Gela, Sicily 9-10 July 1943 and the entire regiment was ashore by 28 July. Landed in Italy 18 October. Regiment reorganized and 2d Battalion redesignated 402d Engineer (Combat) Battalion (Company F of the 19th became Company C of the 402d) 1 March 1945. Battalion was inactivated at or near Campeggio, Italy 30 September 1945. Decorations: none. Campaign Participation Credits: Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily (Invasion), Sicily (Campaign), Rome-Arno, North Apennines & Po Valley. Appears he joined the battalion at Camp Livingston and served with it to the end.
