You probably have this information already from the ABMC, but in case you don't, I submit the following:
Private, U.S. Army,
9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division
Entered service from Georgia
Died: 28 Aug 44
Buried at: Plot K, Row 10, Grave 4,
Brittany American Cemetery,
St. James, France.
Awards: Order of the Purple Heart.
The site provides a very pretty view of the chapel at the cemetery, with flag and markers.
With best regards,
Louie F. Turner.
Addendum: (Again, in case you don't have this information.)
The 2nd ID landed on Omaha Beach, France, 7 June 44;
following other engagements, it moved into Brittany,
17 Aug 44;
it began an assault against strong enemy positions at
Brest, France, 25 Aug 44;
the city of Breast was surrendered by the Germans after a 39-day battle, 17 Sep 44.
I would have to conclude that Jack died in the extended engagement at Brest, France.
