Found it!! 492nd Bombardment Group (Medium) was an element of the 14th Bombardment Wing, 8th Air Force and was made up of the 856th, 857th, 858th, 859th Bombardment Squadrons (Medium). The group flew B-24 Liberators and was based at North Pickenham, England. The 492d was withdrawn from combat 7 August 1944, due mainly to heavy losses, and was consolidated with the 801st Bombardment Group (Provisional), 1st Air Division, 8th Air Force stationed at Harrington Airfield. The 801st had succeeded the 36th Bombardment Group organized in 1943 and had been established upon transfer of the 406th and 788th Bombardment Squadrons to control of Group Headquarters in mid-June 1944. The 801st was reorganized 15 August 1944 and redesignated 492d Bombardment Group and flew "Carpetbagger" missions for the remainder of its service in the European Theater of Operations.
