If anyone can help me, I would be most grateful. I do not have much to start on but am looking for information about my Daddy's military service. This is info I have:

Returned to U.S. (date unknown) aboard hospital ship "Empress of Scotland" to Newport News, Va.

Decorations received: Sharp Shooter 1944; Expert Bayonet Man 1942.
Served under: Captain Robert E. DeRaimes, Lt. Ted Smith, Capt. Hansen.
I have lots of questions, one being why he did not receive Purple Heart for being wounded in battle. These wounds resulted in lifelong disability and he received disability from V.A. as long as he lived. He did not talk much about his combat experiences. He said it was a bad time, a bad war and little girls did not need to hear about such. Precious he was, but now I need to know.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
