Coastal Artillery Radar (SCR 582)
Looking for any information about the history or linage of a Coastal Artillery Unit, Sea Coast Radar (SCR 582). The unit designation was possibly the 188th Signal Air Warning Battalion. They participated in operations in North Africa, Sicily and Italy during the period 1943-45. It is known that they were U.S. Army and the radar was used to detect German U-Boats. They reported to the Navy and the British Air Force. They were also used to detect low flying German aircraft...Any information about the higher headquarters etc.. would be appreciated.
