It seemed so strange to me: one British soldier buried in the Retie cemetery (Flanders, Belgium - very near to the Dutch border) -- amongst the citizens of our village. Knowing the bodies of American soldiers, at least those who have been identified by their tags, practically all of them have been repatriated.
I only very recently learned that in Great Britain no one has an ID card. Very hard to imagine when you live in Belgium, where we have a law saying that every citizen has to be able -- whatever the circumstances -- to show his identification papers...
