34thInf/24th Div. Co"K"-Di Muro KIA, 2-14-45, Battle of Corregidor-Malinta Hill-
Looking for any info on my Uncle Sal - PFC Salvatore J. DiMuro, A.S.N. 32 010 810, PFC, 34th Inf/24th Div. Co K, KIA - Sniper fire, with his company.I have some papers from the Chaplain at that time, Headquarters 34, Infantry, Office of the Chaplain, Father Moran, but he is deceased so I can't get much there.Another letter from the War Dept. Office of QtrMstr Gen. Washington, when they advised my grandfather that his remains wer in USAR Cemetery, Manila, #1, plot 2, row y, grave 707. and that they would comply with feasible wishes of next of kin regarding final interment, etc. My Uncle's body was finally sent out October 1948 and he was buried in St. Raymonds Cemetary.
I have been trying to find out more info as to anyone who might still be alive that knew him.We have very little here at home and most of the family (his parents, brothers and sisters are gone) and would like to have some more info to put into the History File I'm compiling on all of my family.
I have already written to National Archives regarding more info, but all they could supply me with was dates he servied, 3-6-1941 to 2-17-45. and that most records - if any were there on July 12, 1973, would have been in the area that suffered the most damage in a fire there.
If anyone can steer me in another direction, if anyone knew him, I'd appreciate hearing from you.
I have met some wonderful people thru my various postings but no one as yet who personally knew him.Keeping my fingers crossed. Thank you all
