10th Signal Detachment, USS Auburn AGC10 (S/Sgt)
HEY! Anybody out there who was in the US Army Signal who served in the Pacific (WWll) from 1942 to 1945?Guam/Saipan, Iwo Jima, or Okinawa? I was a "high speed"radio operator; Morse code (and voice). The 10th worked with the "Flag", aboard the Auburn; ship to shore, shore to ship, and ship to "anywhere". Can't say it was fun, but as a survivor the Amphibious Group Command, under Admiral Harry W. Hill, took us to a lot of places I'd never been or ever anticipated to be: Class A pass time in New York City, Bayonne, New Jersey, Newport News, Va, shaking down with the USS Missouri (#63) on Long Island Sound, through the Panama Canal, Pearl Harbor (Honolulu, Hilo), Eniwitok, the three aforementioned islands, Manila. Wakayama, Sesebo, Nagasaki, and lastly Tokyo September 8th, and later to San Francisco, Fort Ord and HOME!!!!
If there is anyone out there who would be interested in responding to yours truly please do not hesitate to do so.
I am readily available.
