Company E, 324th Infantry
The 324th Infantry was one of three regiments assigned to the 44th Infantry Division. Company E was an element of the regiment's Second Battalion. He was apparently a motor vehicle mechanic assigned to the motor transport section which was an element of Headquarters Platoon. The regiment arrived inFrance in September 1944. Campaign participation credits: Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe (your Dad may have participated in any one or all of these, depending on whether he was an original member or replacement and other factors). His division commander, Major General William F. Dean, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his part in the Ardennes Defensive ("Battle of the Bulge") and later won the Medal of Honor while commanding the 24th Infantry Division during the early part of the Korean War.
