Robin, It is free. Just the cost of the stamp on your letter. It does take up to a few mo. though. I think because so many of us are now seeking information. I got mine in two months. However, I got all his test scores, list of medals, everywhere he was stationed. The works! There is a place on the paper that you tell them what you want. I said everything...and got it! Sharon
