Re: East African Engineers WWII
Thank you for your efforts on my behalf. I have found an additional message reference as follows:
"The History of the Royal Engineers" published by the Royal Engineer
Institute. It states on page 249 that:
"In the autumn of 1939, the two brigades of K.A.R. were concentrated
under the command of Major-General D.P. Dickinson and a field company of
East African Engineers was raised under command of a local engineer,
Major J. Oates (Lieut-Col. J. Oates, OBE, MC). Shortly afterwards the
formation of two more field companies and a headquarters Divisional
Engineers, with Lieut-Col F.E. Buller, a retired officer of the Royal
Engineers. as CRE, was undertaken. Later it mentions the in June 1940,
two weak African Divisions were formed 1st and 2nd (later 11th and 12th)
with Buller and Oates as CREs respectively of the divisions."
Could you tell me if I can access the "Google engine"?
I would be interested in trying to get the booklet you describe but I don't wish to put you through the bother of seacrhing through a long text item if I can do it my self.
