POW WWII from 36 Div. CO D 142nd Infantry Heavy Mortar
My Dad, Pvt. Bernald B. Ashmead, was in Co. D 142nd Infantry and a Heavy Mortar Crewman. His battles and campaigns were Rome-Arno and Naples-Foggia. I don't know where he was held or for how long. His service records say he was in foreign service for 2 years 1 month and 22 days.
Co. D of the 142nd as I was told was the Heavy Weapons Company of the First battalion. I would appreciate any info on where he may have been held prisoner and for how long. Any info on him what so ever would be greatly appreciated. I would like to know at what date approx. he was captured. I know that the 142nd was almost wiped out. I am sure that it was at that time, but I have no date for reference.
Thank you,
Sharon
