I had hoped to at least identify their parent Infantry Division, based on your reference to 26th Battalion.
My reference, which identifies all Infantry Divisions committed to overseas duty during WW II, does not include this Battalion.
Therefore I would conclude that the list which My. Story prepared was of his buddies during the course of receiving basic training while still in the states.
They would have in turn been re-assigned to to more permanent units, sometimes to divisons still in the states, and sometimes as replacements to some outfit already overseas.
Finally, I ran the list of names thru the Amrerican Burial Memorial Committee listing , and am pleased to report that I found none of them as being buried in some foreign cemetery.
That does not assume that they all survived the war, just that they weren't left there.
