Hi Stephen,
My origial message was #19514, in response to one by Liz.At the time I hadn't any true data on my BAIN connection, but do have it now.
His name was William BAIN born 1908 Glasgow Scotland. He arrived in Australia at the young age of about 15/16 years, sent over, according to my uncle, with some sort ofboys' training group (boys who'd been on the verge of getting into more serious trouble with police/school etc).We have no idea of where William went, but I do know there was a William BAIN born around the same time who joined the Au. Army WWll.Unfortunately his papers aren't available as yet via the web site for such. That chap was in Queensland.
We know our William did marry and did have a daughter, but we've no idea of what her name is.A friend of her's posted a message back in April 2000 on the Rootsweb.com BAIN board asking for info.At the time I didn't know we had a connection.By the time I did, her friend's e-mail address no longer was valid (Flora CAMPBELL was her name;UK e-mail addy).William's daughter was in Australia, not the UK, but was planning a visit to Glasgow in the June. What neither of us knew at the time was her 2 aunts were still alive, although the one died in that same June 2000.As far as I know, the other is still alive. There was another son/brother named either John or Ian.William was the eldest.
William's parents were:David BAIN born c1888/9 - died Arras France 1916/7;mar. 1907 Glasgow, Thomasina BROWN born c1892 Glasgow - died 25 March 1922.Thomasina (Ina) had re-married to Robert STRANG.Died from complications of childbirth.Have copies of her first mar. and death registry. As you can see, they were very young when they wed, 16 & 18.
I have a fair bit of data on the BROWNs - more precisely the maternal CLARK side - and a little more regarding David BAIN's parentage.
Others in Australia have tried to help locate our William, to no avail.I've written to several Austalian newspapers, looking for his daughter, but have had no luck so far.She would be my 2nd cousin, as Thomasina was my gran's (Martha Clark BROWN, aka Matty) older sister.
Hopefully you have an interst in BAIN and may have been in touch with William's daughter.Or perhaps know of another way of tracking him / his duaghter down!
Many thanks for your response.
Cheerio ~ Toni, Ontario Canada.
